Dad-size Big Wheel?
Father’s Day is this weekend and my girls are beginning to grasps the concept – holiday’s equal gifts. They are just not a hundred percent on who receives the gifts. They are stuck on the whole Christmas exchanging gifts thing. They pretty much expect something in return when they give a gift. My family asked what I wanted for father’s day; I responded with something thoughtful and left it at that. I don’t want clothes or one of those awful sports plaques that are sold in memorabilia stores. I just never got into the whole sports memorabilia thing. It all seems so impersonal.
Father’s day is a relatively new federal holiday; it’s less than fifty years old. That means my grandfather didn’t celebrate father’s day when he became a dad. Really hard to imagine that, after seeing the merchandise stores peddle during this holiday – it rivals Mother’s day. I’ll pass on the “World’s Greatest Dad” mug this year; not really a good father’s day gift idea. I want something more personal, something I wouldn’t buy for myself and I don’t mean socks and under wear. A gift unique to me so, surprise me.
What I’m doing for my dad on Father’s day
I’m going to grill him a nice Rib-eye with a baked potato and Austin baked beans, yum! It really doesn’t get much more personal than that. He enjoys those kind of gestures – always did. What are you going to do for dear old dad on Father’s day? Some friendly advice from a dad would be to think of all the great things he does and how he enjoys life – in his way. If you look at it from that perspective, you’ll give him something he’ll cherish for a long time; whether it is something tangible or a memorable moment or both? Every dad is different; make it unique to his liking.
As always please leave a comment or some great dad day ideas for the rest of us. Thanks for reading.

Laura´s last blog ..My most ideal man
Since my father will be 80 this fall there is not much he needs or wants. So I am thinking a bottle of wine and a letter. A letter to thank him for everything he has done and to let him know how much he means to me.

you know to me cooking for someone is the best gift you can give. it makes it just that much better when the love is poured into it.
wishing you the best (and peacefulest) of father’s days
